What it is |
|
hi everyone,
thanks for posting.
basically we are creating a way that you can move your stuff between different worlds and communicate. this is the metacrasher environment and tools
the first step is signing up. you can find the sign up page at: www.metacrasher.com/signup.html
the next step is you get a 3dWebspace and page at metacrasher.com...you can copy and paste your webspace into any html document. we are currently putting together the various themes you can have along with the avatar system. examples of these will be up on the site before the beginning of next week.
also you will get an email license to the first building tool Archipelis Designer.
and lastly you will be invited to test out the peer2peer network which will blow your mind. that is where you will do all of your building. this is the equivalent of a second life sim.
we will start putting up more examples and videos tonight so stay tuned. also we will be making a press release announcement about the peer2peer and some other things early next week.
cheers
the metacrasher team

sorry for the delay in reply...we have some pretty cool announcements to make this week. as stated it is a game like sl with easier to use tools and a host of added features. we are trying to make the game so that you can take your stuff in and out of other games.
in the next weeks we will be adding the chat capabilities and then we are off to the races.

WTF? |
|
I am still fuzzy on the concept and how it is expected to work?
With Opensim, you will have a standard interface, the Linden Labs protocol. And currently you can upload creations made with Blender as sculpti prims into SL. So, if you use Blender, you can upload the same files to each Opensim (err.. once inventory is working.. any day now). So moving assets into multiple OS worlds should be little problem.
having copies on a 3rd party ftp server would have some value.
As far as Linden's SL; having a point of contact for the Metacrasher company is a reasonable idea, "slurl COORDINATES AVAILABLE Tuesday July 10, 2007" is what you have here, and (checks his watch) that is a bit past due. Not that schedules don't slip, just that it raises a bit of a flag.
It *sounds* like you will also be providing software for running a local sim (P2P 3D space), this is a distinct different product. I run the current Opensim on my local box, and can see where having it configured and setting up a 2 sim grid (P2P) would be a cool idea.
A dead tree magazine is a third distinct business venture, but seems to be the revenue generating part of the business model, or at least the method of establishing payment for the other.
"3d web space(immediately) and peer 2 peer space(end of july)equivelent to your ad size. the peer 2 peer and web spaces are yours to keep even if you do not renew your ad space for each quaterly issue.but the monthly network fees will still apply."
So I count 3 separate, linked businesses. It sounds interesting, but I am skeptical - and misspellings on the webpage does not inspire confidence.
So are there 3 products here? ( creation tools/storage, P2P sim/2 person grid and RL magazine) or am I missing something?
My fondness for Opensource is not because of the $, it's because it allows projects to survive the death of the company that spawns them. this seems to be all proprietary tools and software (well.. Opensim is BSD, so it *could* be used, legally, but the illustrations are not Opensim, they are much nicer)
well.. good luck - I will keep an eye on this
